What is one of the things that Las Vegas is the most well known for? Hotel casinos are unique to Las Vegas and the city is well known for having the biggest and best hotel casinos around. Those on the famous Las Vegas Strip are the most well known of all the hotel casinos in the city.

Some of the most popular are:

•	The Luxor
•	The Bellagio
•	The Venetian
•	Caesars Palace
•	New York, New York
•	Treasure Island

You can also find the Hilton and Westin hotels in this same area. The hotels on the Strip are created to cater to the wealthy and the finest of Las Vegas visitors. They are typically quite expensive, even during the off season and can be hard for the average person to afford. During the off season, the hotels on the Strip may offer discounts but even with these, the hotels are quite expensive per stay.

The hotels in the city are typically more affordable and you may be able to find discount hotels here. The most popular hotels right in the city are:

•	Excalibur Hotel and Casino
•	Monte Carlo Resort and Casino
•	Stratosphere Casino Hotel and Tower
•	MGM Grand Hotel and Casino
•	Circus Circus Hotel and Casino
•	Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino
•	Tropicana Resort and Casino

If you’re planning to stay at once of these, it’s usually best to try to avoid the weekends. Not only is it more expensive on the weekend but you’ll also have to contend with the wild party crowds.

If these are all too much for your pocketbook, there are also cheaper options in Las Vegas. In fact, there are many budget/affordable hotels and casinos in Las Vegas. If you’re on a budget or want to save some of that dough for gambling, consider these options:

•	Villager-Flami
•	Orleans
•	Riviera
•	La Quinta Las Vegas Convention Center
•	Sahara Hotel and Casino
•	Hawthorn Suites
•	Boulder Station Hotel and Casino
•	Cancun Resort
•	Desert Paradise Resort
•	Hampton Inn Nellis AFB
•	Golden Gate Hotel and Casino
•	Royal Hotel and Casino

Some of the leasing hotels of Las Vegas have been around since the 1940s, others are newer. All share one thing in common; the glitz and glamour of Sin City. When planning your trip to Las Vegas, you’re going to need a place to stay. In Vegas, the hotel is all part of the experience.

If you are a golf fan traveling to Las Vegas, you probably already know that there are many great places in Las Vegas to enjoy golf. If you’re planning a golf getaway or a vacation the family can enjoy where you can easily squeeze in some golf, then Las Vegas has you covered.

There are more than 50 golf courses visible near Las Vegas. Several resorts have more than one golf course on their grounds as an added bonus to staying there. Most of the golf courses both in and around Las Vegas also have advance booking so you can be sure to get your spot on the greens at the time and date you need.

While Las Vegas has some of the most beautiful greens found anywhere, you will need to be prepared to pay for it. The courses can vary from $20 to hundreds of dollars per booking but most in the Las Vegas area are not less than $100 for a booking. You may want to go in with a buddy or family member on the price.

Las Vegas is one of the only places in the world where you can also enjoy some great nighttime golf. Golf Digest has even nationally ranked some of the golf courses found in Las Vegas. There are courses that are well known for both their beauty and their playability. There’s also the added bonus of enjoying one of your favorite things to do in one of the greatest and most popular cities in the United States.

Las Vegas has some golf courses that are more than 3,000 feet in elevation. These are well known for having spectacular views of the Las Vegas Valley and Red Rock Canyon. You can expect to find superb clubhouses and more than average amenities.

Las Vegas is actually known for having some of the most expensive golf courses in the world, but for good reason. Some of the world’s best known golf course designers had a hand in creating the courses of Vegas. Just like many other things in Las Vegas, they are created with entertainment, fun, style and luxury in mind.

So, if you’re planning to be in Las Vegas, don’t miss out on a great opportunity to golf at one of the best golf courses in the world. It wouldn’t be a complete trip to Vegas if you didn’t at least check them out. It’s advised to take part in the advance booking to ensure your spot on the greens.

If you’re not from the city, traveling in Las Vegas may seem like a nightmare. If you are just a tourist or person passing through, it can be less than relaxing when it comes to transportation in this large city. Las Vegas has a population of over 2 million and this isn’t counting the many tourists and travelers that visit each and every day. This means there are a lot of people everywhere you go.

Traffic can be very intense making driving in the city very difficult, especially when you don’t know your way around. Public transportation exists to make traveling a bit easier on tourists but this can be tricky as well if you don’t know what you’re doing or where you’re going.

Your best bet is to learn as much as you can about traveling in Las Vegas before you actually leave for your trip and everything will be much easier for you once you get there. One option that you have for public transportation is the Las Vegas Monorail. This is an affordable option for singles, couples and small groups who are traveling. However, if you have a large group, the Monorail does not offer discounts so this might get a bit expensive.

Another option that you have for traveling in Las Vegas is the CAT, Citizens Are Transit bus line. This is a city bus with 49 routes throughout all of Las Vegas and the surrounding areas. This bus line has extended hours and even 24 hour routes in some popular areas. There are all day passes and 30-day passes which are also available to help you save even more.

Another option is the taxi. You see these used a lot in television and Hollywood scenes of Las Vegas and they are an affordable option. If you are going to be traveling with more than one or two people, this might be the most affordable option for you. In Las Vegas, you don’t have to pay any taxi surcharges for extra passengers but you should include a tip of about 15% of the fare and add $1 per bag you’re carrying into your tip as well.

You may find that you need to make use of more than one method of transportation while visiting Las Vegas. For example, you may arrange for a cab to and from the airport but use the Monorail while in the city. Many places you want to visit can be found by walking, for example, if you spend the evening on The Strip so you have that as an advantage also.

When trying to determine things to do in Las Vegas, you don’t have to leave your best friend at home. There are actually places in Las Vegas where you can bring your four-legged friend along. If you’re a dog owner who lives in Las Vegas or is planning a trip to Las Vegas, you will benefit from knowing all the dog parks in Las Vegas so your furry friend can enjoy this grand city, too.

Here are some well known dog parks or dog friendly parks in Las Vegas:

•	All American Park
•	Barkin’ Basis Park
•	Centennial Hills
•	Charlie Kellogg and Joe Zaher Sports Complex
•	Children’s Memorial Park
•	Lorenzi Park
•	Jaycee Park
•	Police Memorial Park
•	Winding Trails Park
•	Woofter Park

Some of these parks are not dog-specific only but are regular parks with amendments for dogs as well. These allow the whole family to enjoy a great time in the city without leaving Fido at home.

All American Park is one example. This 45 acre park of Las Vegas has one dog run along with many ball fields, tennis courts, picnic areas and much more.

As the name will let you know, Barkin’ Basis Park was designed specifically for dogs. This 7.75 acre park is adjacent to W. Wayne Bunker Park and has dog and people water fountains, three separated dog cells and shaded sitting areas for owners.

Centennial Hills park is about 120 acres and has two dog runs along with more fun and open space for family. Charlie Kellogg and Joe Zeher Sports Complex has three dog runs. Children’s Memorial Park has two dog runs on its 34.68 acre grounds. They also feature six baseball/ softball fields, two basketball courts, a fitness course, horseshoe courts and so much more.

Jaycee Park has two dog runs as does Lorenzi Park. Police Memorial Park has three dog runs on its 24 acre grounds and Winding Trails Park has one dog run. Woofter Park features two dog runs as well on its 9 acre grounds.

As you can see, there are many great places in Las Vegas for your dog to relax, unwind, socialize and more. If you’re planning on leaving your dog behind next time you visit Las Vegas, it may be time to change your mind. Pack him up and take him out to see Vegas from a dog’s eye at one or more of these great dog parks.

Where would Las Vegas be without gambling? Chances are, it wouldn’t be nearly the large and popular city that it is today. When we think about Vegas, we most often think about bright lights and of course, gambling. This is because gambling is one of only two places in the country you can gamble legally and it has become a bit of a poster for gambling and fun in the movies, television and more.

So how did all this come to be? Why it that Las Vegas became the gambling capitol and what is the Las Vegas gambling history? To understand this, we have to look at our forefathers and their love for games involving luck, dice and cards. Long before gambling was official, people played cards and luck games.

In fact, these games were believed to be so fun and addicted that stories tell us some incredibly wealthy people risked a great amount of money just for the sake of enjoying the game or the gamble. When we look at history of the world, most every civilization has a history of some type of gambling being practiced within its communities.

It wasn’t just the wealthy who wanted to join in the gambling fun and excitement. The lure of becoming rich overnight also brought many people to try their hand at luck and fate through gambling.

Many of the common and popular games found in today’s casinos happened over time. Games like poker, playing cards, Blackack and even slot machines each have their own history and each have developed even more in the way

It’s important to note that Las Vegas didn’t emerge into the great gambling city that it is today in just one night. In fact, it took many years and many different people and circumstances to create the Las Vegas that we know today. What began as an abandoned valley turned to a grand city that has people from all over the world flocking to it.

Gambling in Las Vegas began with small games on the side between travelers, workers on the Hoover Dam and other people just passing through but gambling was against the law so you wouldn’t have seen any casinos back then. It wasn’t until 1931 when gambling was legalized and the growth of Las Vegas really took off.

From this point on, casinos began to pop up as quickly as the plans could be drawn for them. People drove across the country to be able to legally gamble and play games in Las Vegas. This is how we came to have the Las Vegas of today.

Do you ever wonder how Las Vegas came to be the grand city it is today with over 2 million residents? Las Vegas is one of the largest national tourist attractions in the world and such a popular city is not without its tall tales. So how do you separate fact from fiction when it comes to Las Vegas? We hope to clear up some of the tales today.

The city of Las Vegas was officially incorporated in 1911 and in 1920, the first casino was opened on Fremont Street which is still there today. That first casino began a lucrative industry that is still going strong today, even stronger than ever.

Las Vegas has been the center of speculation, lies, tall tales and even horrible stories that are actually true. This is a place for illegal fun and games, real and alleged mob activity, prostitution and much more. While much of what takes place in Vegas is legal (even if not legal in other parts of the country), some things which happen there are not.

This doesn’t stop the people from flocking there, though and Las Vegas is one of the largest tourist attractions in the world. The 1930s were a very important time for Las Vegas and many things developed in these years that would make the city what it is today. The underwriting of the Hoover Dam brought many people to the area and the legalization of gambling made many stay and brought even more.

Nevada also legalized divorce during this period and Las Vegas residents could get a divorce after living there for only six weeks. This also brought people from all over the country.

The beginning of the casinos is what is said to have brought the mobsters and it is true that some mob activity moved from the New York City area to Las Vegas. Bugsy Siegel was one of these mobsters who in addition to working a racket in Vegas, also ran narcotics importing from Mexico into Las Vegas and built a huge prostitution business.

In the 40s and the 50s, Las Vegas would see even more growth, especially in the downtown areas. Many more gambling establishments would grow up during this period, attracting yet even more people. In the late 40s and early 50s, the government became concerned about the mob’s presence and power in Las Vegas.

This was when the Gambling Control Board was set up to regulate and legitimize gaming. This “cleaned up” Vegas a bit as shady investors had to get clean although Las Vegas could still be considered a “freewheeling” area.

From the 50s on, Las Vegas would continue to soar with new hotels, casinos and attractions being built at a rapid pace. Many famous names and faces made their appearances at Las Vegas and The Strip grew up from the 60s to the 80s. Las Vegas today has become not only a place but a brand and a legend all of its own. We’re left with a famous catchphrase: What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

We hear a lot about Las Vegas as it’s one of the most popular tourist attractions in the US. However, how much do you really know about Las Vegas, its history and how it came to be the city it is today? To fully understand what Las Vegas is today, you need to know something about its past.

Las Vegas is found in the western United States in the state of Nevada. Las Vegas is Spanish for “the meadow” and was originally discovered in 1829 by a Mexican trader who was looking for a route to Las Angeles. Before this route was discovered, this area was referred to as the “journey of death”.

Later, exploration of water discovered there was an abundance of springs in the valley area that was called Las Vegas and this made the journey to Los Angeles quicker and easier. Thus, it became the preferred route to take for travelers and traders of the time. It still didn’t become really well known until 1844 when the well-known explorer John C. Fremont marked his visit in his logs.

About ten years after this, Las Vegas would finally become a permanent settlement. Mormon missionaries from Salt Lake City called it home for some time. They even built a fort and made a mail stop.

The history of Las Vegas continues as US Senator William Clark bought the rights to the former Mormon settlement in 1902. He also bought water rights and 2,000 acres of land in hopes of building a town. This town wasn’t officially founded until 1905 but Clark even constructed a railroad for the steam locomotives. The town became incorporated in 1911 with a population of 800. Up to this time, there were strict anti-gambling laws in place in the state of Nevada so you wouldn’t have seen any casinos back then.

1931 was the year that changed Las Vegas. Gambling was legalized throughout the state of Nevada and divorce laws were liberalized so you could get a divorce in Las Vegas after being a resident for only 6 weeks.

After World War II, Las Vegas began to build up hotels and casinos and earned the title of “Sin City”. Wealthy businessmen flocked here to invest in the popularly growing city. These billionaires invested in hotels and casinos and even built hotels with casinos in them and the city continued to grow into what we know it as today, over 100 years past its inception. Las Vegas is now one of the largest international tourist attractions in the world. It also has a population of over 2 million, making it one of the largest cities in the country as well.
